Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or location entered in a search tool is sent directly to the outside provider operating that tool. The provider handles the query and supplies its results. We do not keep or log those search terms on our systems.
Messages and Contact Submissions
An email or other direct message may be retained long enough to respond and maintain the exchange. It remains within our organization unless disclosure is required by law.
Data We Gather Automatically
Our systems automatically receive basic technical and usage details when a page loads:
- The IP address assigned to your device
- Which browser you are using and its version
- Your device type and operating system
- The pages you visited and how long you stayed on each
- The site that sent you here, if any
- Timestamps for each page view
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small files placed on a device. They and analytics services help aggregate traffic, such as popular pages and common exit points. Browser controls can block cookies, although doing so may change how some features behave.
What We Do With This Data
- Routing a search request to the selected partner service
- Maintaining site availability, speed, and security
- Diagnosing errors and other technical problems
- Understanding which pages serve readers well
- Displaying advertising that may reflect user interests
No Criminal-Record Data on File
Marathon County Criminal History does not compile, maintain, or sell a database of personal criminal records. It publishes general directions to the Marathon County Sheriff, Wisconsin Circuit Court, Wisconsin DOJ Crime Information Bureau, Wisconsin Sex Offender Registry, and other official custodians. We are not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act. Visitor information is not assembled into consumer reports or third-party criminal profiles.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies power the search boxes. Their privacy terms, retention rules, and sharing practices govern any data submitted to them. Those practices are beyond our control, so review the relevant provider policy before running a query.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to Marathon County offices, Wisconsin agencies, courts, legal resources, or outside tools. Once a visitor leaves this site, the destination's privacy policy applies. Review it before providing personal information.
Advertising providers may use their own systems to measure activity across websites and select ads. We do not operate that tracking.
Who Might See Your Data
We do not sell personal information. Limited data may be available to:
- Analytics vendors measuring traffic and performance
- Search partners receiving a query submitted to their tool
- Advertising networks serving content on these pages
- Government or law-enforcement bodies acting under a valid legal demand
How We Protect Your Data
Reasonable, commonly used safeguards protect collected data. No internet system can guarantee perfect security, however, so we cannot promise that unauthorized access will never occur.
Users Under 18
This resource is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone younger than 18. If such information comes to our attention, we will take steps to remove it.
Your Data Rights
Applicable Wisconsin consumer-protection law, including Wis. Stat. § 100.18, and the law where a user lives may provide additional rights. Subject to legal limits, a user may:
- Request access to personal data held about them
- Ask for correction of inaccurate data
- Request deletion where the law permits it
- Object to or opt out of certain processing
Updates to This Policy
This policy may change as practices or legal duties change. A revised version will appear here with its new effective date.
